The story of Pluméo
A tool built for one person, then shared with everyone.
I am a sociologist and a teacher, with a master’s degree in educational sciences. What has always driven me is helping the people around me: finding the tool, the explanation or the helping hand that makes things a little simpler.
For almost twenty years I have shared my life with a graduate in Romance literature. She loves books. And one day, she started writing her first novel.
I couldn’t write it for her, and I had no wish to: that text is hers. But I could take part in another way. By building her the tools that suit her. A quiet place to write, where the text, the ideas, the notes and the research stay together. A tool in French that respects French typography. A tool that asks for no account, no subscription, no connection, and doesn’t read what you write.
That is how Pluméo was born. Evening after evening, it grew: a binder to arrange the chapters, cards so as not to lose track of the characters, backups so as never to lose a line, statistics to see how far you have come. Every feature came from a real writing need.
Then an idea took hold: those hours of building could be useful to others. To everyone who writes in the evening after work, who has been putting off their novel for years, or who simply wants a sober tool that lets them write. That is why Pluméo now speaks English as well as French.
So Pluméo is independent software, made in Belgium. Today it supports the novel, the short story and the children’s and YA novel; other genres will come later. You buy it once, it stays yours, and your text never leaves your computer.
